Running clothes, where for art thou?

Finding storage = the trials and tribulations of living in a loft! As the fall weather came upon us rather abruptly yesterday, pretty much the second the calendar changed seasons so did the weather, I suddenly realized I might have to start dressing in long sleeves and tights for runs. But when I went to grab a long sleeve out of my running drawer, there were none to be had. Now, this drawer is a pretty full drawer so I looked again, and again, and again. I wasn’t satisfied until I had pulled every article of clothing out of the drawer and onto my floor. Nope, no long sleeve there. I searched the closet, not there; another drawer, not there; well crikey, where the heck had my running clothes run off to? As of writing this post, I have yet to find my cool weather running gear, but I suspect […]

Battles of a sick taper

Sigh. This weekend marked the start of taper week for me with the Bellingham Bay half marathon set for next Sunday, which, given that I’ve been pretty much in taper mode the last month and a half with that stupid, vexing injury of mine, didn’t really mean much. In fact, I was more worried about not running a significant distance than about cooling my running heels. But because Big Ring and I had plans for an afternoon belated celebration of our 4-year wedding anniversary – NO LITTLE RING!  – I thought I’d be able to get through this weekend no problem. Out of sight out of mind right 😀 09•12•09 But then, I got sick. A stupid, freaking, jerk-face cold. And then, Little Ring got sick. And then, our afternoon date was cancelled due to said sickness. And then, we were stuck at home. And then, the rain came. And

Fairhaven: a love affair continues

Oh beautiful, beautiful Fairhaven, we have had a love affair that has lasted a good many years haven’t we. Ah, the memories, the moments, the romances we’ve had. It’s an affair that’s extended well beyond the short-lived toe shoe craze of mine that first put you in my sights. Your history, your old-time architecture, your boutiques, your food, your village greens, your marinas, every visit is ripe with wonderfully new discoveries. And so, my beauty, it only seemed natural, don’t you think, I run a race on your very personage 😀 FAIRHAVEN WATERFRONT 15K: 8 a.m. BG before: 10.4 Carbs: breakfast 2.5 hours earlier, full bolus Temp. basal: none Time: 1:24:04 Distance: 15 km Average pace: 5:38 min/km Average cadence: 86 spm Fuel: @30 minutes 2 shot blocks @60 minutes 2 shot blocks 10:15 p.m. BG after: 9.2 11th in my age/gender category, not too shabby. Cutting time experiment No. 1

Today’s post-run shower was brought to me by the kind folks at Pampers’ and their baby wipes 😀 Holy freaking crud monkey it was roasting out there today! My car’s thermostat was registering 34 degrees at lunch, right as I was lacing up for my second lunch run of the week. My glucometre overheated, it was that hot! My keys seared my fingers, it was that hot! My lungs felt as though we were running through a sauna, it was that hot! It wasn’t the prettiest of runs, but it was a run. Success. TODAY’S RUN: 12:15 p.m. BG before: 6.0 Temp. basal: none Carbs: Sezme Snack (12g) no bolus Time: 30:14 Distance: 5.41 km Average pace: 5:35 min/km Average cadence: 86 spm BG after: ??? (metre overheated. see above.) In an effort to cut down on the amount of time it takes me to change out of my work

Top secret running

Ok, seriously – seriously! – why did my hair have to look so smokin’ hot today? Like, I mean, perfect hair Emma Stone hot! The colour glimmered, the style was smooth, every strand perfect (well, aside from the clumps that fell out… but that’s another story!). But today, of all days, are you kidding me? Today, the day I had pegged to be the start of my new lunch-time running regime. I’m not gonna lie, the thought did cross my mind to postpone the run for tomorrow, but then I thought what happens if my hair is even prettier tomorrow, and even prettier the next day, do I postpone those runs too? No. I spent as many moments this morning as I could admiring the beauty of my hair in mirrors, windows, and any other shiny objects I passed by before I snuck out of the office (I felt like I
