running at work

Like a rag doll

I went for a mid, work-day run yesterday. It was windy. Like really windy. Every which way I turned, I was being whipped around like a rag doll in the hands of a giddy three year old. It was cold. Not Calgary blizzard cold, but below zero B.C. cold, which for us is cold. Like really cold. My toes felt like they were going to break off. My fingers were purple and swollen – even with gloves. My chin was numb. But the sun was shining and I was running. Brrrrrr!!! YESTERDAY’S RUN: 11:30 a.m. BG before: 6.5 Temp. basal: none Carbs: mini rice cake with peanut butter and 1 DEX Time: 33:20 Distance: 6.10 km Average pace: 5:30 min/km 12:45 p.m. BG after: 6.4 And I plan to do it all over again tomorrow 😀

Cutting time experiment No. 1

Today’s post-run shower was brought to me by the kind folks at Pampers’ and their baby wipes 😀 Holy freaking crud monkey it was roasting out there today! My car’s thermostat was registering 34 degrees at lunch, right as I was lacing up for my second lunch run of the week. My glucometre overheated, it was that hot! My keys seared my fingers, it was that hot! My lungs felt as though we were running through a sauna, it was that hot! It wasn’t the prettiest of runs, but it was a run. Success. TODAY’S RUN: 12:15 p.m. BG before: 6.0 Temp. basal: none Carbs: Sezme Snack (12g) no bolus Time: 30:14 Distance: 5.41 km Average pace: 5:35 min/km Average cadence: 86 spm BG after: ??? (metre overheated. see above.) In an effort to cut down on the amount of time it takes me to change out of my work …

Hmm… I honestly don’t know if I can make that happen, but by golly I am mighty intrigued by the idea. Not surprising really. Since going back to work on Tuesday, I have yet to get a run or strength training in. I’ve had good intentions when climbing into my car at the end of the day, but the first day there was an accident on the highway, which kept me in the car for nearly 2 hours, and the two other days, it was just a long commute, as they all are, and by the time I get home, I am thoroughly exhausted, and by the time Little Ring is …
