Wild Rice me up baby!

The new restaurant in town is starting to make me look like a big fat hypocrite. It’s no secret that I don’t like rice, and beyond wonton soup, I don’t like Chinese food either. So when Mario suggested last month we take our New York friends to the new Asian fusion restaurant, Wild Rice, I was dubious. Not only was it Chinese, it had rice in the name – it could not possibly be good. Oh how wrong I was. Wild Rice has been operating in Gastown for 10 years, and just opened its second location down the quay from us in New Westminster last month. As I mentioned in my first blog about this place, this is not your typical $10, all-you-can-eat, MSG filled buffet – this is art. Our second visit to the restaurant, last night, was all my doing. When I spotted a brief in the local paper that […]

Like a glamazon princess

Holy crud monkey, I saw my life flash before my eyes today – multiple times! The culprit: Holy crap heels! When I purchased these shoes online a couple months ago, I did NOT realize the heels were that high, oh my. When I opened the box, my eyes wide eyed and shocked, I thought what the frick, how the heck am I to wear these suckers? I can barely walk in 1-inch heels, these ones are FIVE inches tall! I stored them in my closet. They taunted me every morning. But then, there was this morning. It started out rather frenetic. I wanted to wear one of my 7 jeans, but couldn’t find them for the life of me, and no other pair would do. I tore apart my closet; my drawers; my laundry basket. The last time I wore them was Sunday; I couldn’t think of anywhere else they’d be.

A marathon of different sorts

Sometimes you really just need to veg. For two straight weeks, 14 full days, I’ve been go-go-go. Work has been absolutely insane with the dramas leading up to the election; the pads of my fingers are practically raw from the amount I’ve been typing, and there has been NO paid downtime, which really I’m not so thrilled about. And when I’m not at work, I’m either blogging (although truthfully, I’ve somewhat fallen by the wayside on that one, sorry guys) or planning adventures for the future (more on that… in the future). By yesterday afternoon, I was feeling like I’d been whipped by a ton of bricks. I couldn’t move. I couldn’t think. I could barely keep my eyes open. I napped from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and then dragged myself out of bed, down the stairs, and proceeded to plop myself onto the couch for another five hours

Giving thanks

Happy Thanksgiving friends! Every day I am thankful for so much in my life, and today, I share with you a few of those things. I am thankful for my loving husband who cooks for me almost every day of the year (most likely because he fears me poisoning him, but whatever) and who, on holidays where there is no turkey or stuffing or cheesy vegetables to be had (the horror, I know!) cooks the next best thing: our traditional Christmas Eve dinner, German rouladin. Nothing better than the smells of Christmas Eve wafting through your living room two months ahead of time 😀 I’m also thankful he let me sleep in this morning, the last day of my holidays! I am thankful for my beautifully sarcastic family who always bring a smile to my face, laughter in my heart, and a rapid-fire sarcastic remark on my own two lips.

Two

Metallica has one. Mario and I have two. This is how happy I am… Two years ago, the sun was burning, and the temperature a handful of degrees hotter than average. Two years ago, the butterflies were fluttering both in and out of my belly. Two years ago, my knees were shaking so bad, hands trembling, and smile smarting. Two years ago, as Shawn Colvin’s voice filled the skies with Never Saw Blue Like That, I walked out onto my parent’s balcony and down the steps to my dream come true. Two years ago, in front of our most closest friends and beloved family, my best friend became my husband. …to have this man by my side! Two years that doesn’t feel longer than two days.
