Love at first pump

Have you ever come across something and instantly knew you just had to have it? I have, many times. For example, the stand-up microphone in the Sears catalogue, I had to have. And year after year I repeatedly asked Santa, my parents, the stranger on the street corner for it, but was sadly denied every year. Apparently they didn’t want to hear my singing in stereo sound; they don’t know what they were missing 😉 But I tell you, the new Tandem t:slim insulin pump, I will not be denied. While this pump is not yet approved in Canada, and has only just begun its unveiling in the United States, to be released there shortly, come hell or high water, that sucker will be clasped on my belt by the time my medical coverage allows me a new pump. I promise you that. What makes this pump so special? Look […]

Yertle the Turtle

I’m not gonna lie, that run I went on last night, that super short, super easy, loosen up the legs 3.5 km run, was scary as hell. In fact, could even be in my top 5 scary runs. It’s a run I’ve done hundreds of times, I could run it with my eyes closed, I could run it backwards, I could run it through the thick of snow, but last night the nerves in my belly felt as though they were embarking on their first marathon. I was practically pooping my pants! Can you feel the fear? Last night was my first outdoor run since falling flat on my face and spraining my shoulder two weeks ago. Sure I’ve done a couple treadmill runs, but before yesterday, nothing outdoors. And it just so happened, last night’s route was part of the same route we ran that evening. Ohhh the fond

The blood cannon

Crazy thing happened to me this morning. Well actually, to be honest, a couple crazy things happened. First, I decided to set the alarm for 5 a.m. which NEVER happens. See, I was recently challenged by Big Brother (unbeknownst to him) to workout in the mornings. He’s been boasting all about his new found love of morning workouts, how they make him less scary in the morning, more talkative, and energized for the whole day. And so, I thought, if he can do it (he is NOT a morning person) I can do it. So last night, I set the alarm fully intending to ride the bike trainer for 45 minutes before going to work. But when I got up to use the washroom at 3:40 a.m., I was already negotiating my way out of the plan. And when the alarm went off, the last thing I wanted to do

SURPRISE!!!

Want to know a secret? Do you? Do you really want to know? Okay, I’ll tell you: I can keep a secret! SURPRISE!!! 😀 This was a questionable thing. My family has never been good at keeping secrets, we get so excited about things that we are just bursting at the seams to spill the beans. It comes from the top. My moms  is the worst (sorry moms!). She tries to keep her mouth shut, tries with all her might, but she just can’t do it. Case in point: Christmas gift exchange. Every year my family draws names, and a good portion of us try to guess who has who. Obviously I start with my moms. But this year, she swore up and down that she was not going to tell, oh no, “it was a secret,” she said. But without further prodding she continued, “all I’ll tell you is

What would you do?

Hmm… well now, this is an odd predicament I’ve found myself in. I got an email today from a fairly well known candy producer (one of which I happen to love to reach for when my blood sugars are low) suggesting I join their online community. Apparently they produce no-sugar added products and have partnered with the Canadian Diabetes Association to create this networking community of like-minded diabetics such as myself. If I join, they will publish the title of my blog posts, as well as the first few sentences of each post. And if their readers want to see the full article, they will then be pushed to my site. The obvious benefits are increased exposure, increased traffic to my blog, and a forum to connect with other diabetics. Seems win-win, especially given that I set out this year to double my blog traffic by the end of the
