T1D workshops: be the best T1D you can be

Be the best T1D you can be! Over the next several months I will be hosting a series of T1D workshops to help you do just that šŸ™‚

Hi friends! This is a short post just to inform you all of a unique opportunity for my T1D peeps.

Why T1D Workshops

As mentioned above, I have developed multiple workshops to explore all things T1D.

When I went back to school, and switched careers from being a journalist to a registered dietitian, the impetus for it all was to create an abundance of resources for the T1D population.

As a person with type-1 diabetes, I struggled to find adequate information to help me manage my own T1D.Ā  There were tons of resources for people with type-2, and quite a bit for the pediatric T1D population, which is great, they deserve good information too, but there wasn’t a lot out there for us adults with T1D.

And for me, that was a problem.

A huge problem.

I wanted to change that. I wanted to be a source, and I wanted to provide a multitude of resources.

That, my friends, is how we got here today.

It was my experiences in sport that drove me to becoming a T1D dietitian.
The Workshops

From May to December, I will be hosting a series of workshops. Topics include:

  • Beyond carb counting: this one, we’re looking at managing T1D in meals beyond just the carb counts. Meals are more than just carbs, and we should be treating them that way
  • Sport with T1D: providing a tips and tricks for managing type 1 in all sorts of exercise and sporting activities
  • Disordered eating and T1D: exploring the whys for our heightened risk of disordered eating and eating disorders, and then creating a toolkit to reduce that risk
  • Travel with T1D: all things you need to know about travelling with T1D, as well a multitude of strategies for making travels (no matter where you go) enjoyable and T1D successful
  • Preparing for pregnancy with T1D: giving you the tools to confidently go into pregnancy and first trimester, and dispelling the many, long-standing myths associated with pregnancy and T1D
  • Third trimester and beyond: this one can be combined with the above or used as a standalone. Exploring third trimester, labour and delivery, and postpartum with T1D and providing realistic guidance for each stage
  • Mental health and T1D: examining the risks of things like diabetes distress, diabetes burnout, anxiety and stress, and providing a toolkit for reducing and managing those risks
Paris 2025 – dosing for carbs, activity, but not fat protein at this point

Each workshop will provide various cheat sheets and other resources for the topics. There will also be an opportunity to continue the discussion (if you desire) post workshop in an online community. These workshops are open to anyone, living anywhere. Cost is $60 each or $50 if you purchase one or more at a time. You do not need to sign up for all; you can pick and choose to your needs. If you have extended health, you may be eligible for reimbursement from your plan; receipts will be provided.

What I Bring

I am a registered dietitian, certified diabetes educator, and long-time person with T1D. I will be providing both evidenced-based knowledge, as well as experiential knowledge. We will be exploring these topics together, brainstorming additional strategies, and figuring out ways of implementing them to your specific needs.

Beyond Carb Counting

Workshop number one is scheduled for May 26, 2025. The topic is Beyond Carb Counting. Two time slots are available: 4 pm PST and 7 pm PST. Deadline to register is May 23, 2025.
