Petal power

I haven’t won the lottery, haven’t scored a trip to Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory, haven’t been surprised with six months in Italy, but my goodness I am having a super duper fantastic amazing week. Nothing spectacular has happened, but a continuum of really good things have, and even when I was faced with a couple of hiccups earlier in the week that could have turned everything sour, they didn’t. I love this present frame of mind.

My favourite ironchickie is seemingly always in that frame of mind. Maybe it’s her New Zealand accent, that chipper lingo of hers always leaving me wanting more. Even when she’s frustrated, she’s able to find that glass half full mentality … and she uses words like bloomin’ to describe her frustration – I kid you not, I swear that’s the word I heard and I was so tempted to pretend I didn’t hear just so I could hear her say it again! Brilliant.

We met up last night for a long overdue aqua jogging session. And it’s crazy because every time I AJ by myself, after just 10 minutes I’m wanting to call it quits. But with my favourite ironchickie, her and I chatting, laughing, telling stories the entire time, an hour can go by like nothing. And suddenly, I’m saying crazy things like “I love aqua jogging!” or “That was so much fun!” or “Let’s do another hour!” Okay maybe that last one was a lie 😉

And then I start thinking, hmm, maybe I should add to my AJ attire. Right now, I’ve got a swim cap with blue and orange fishies on it, but I recently came across an eye popper of one in a magazine, and I thought, oh yeah:

What do you think?

  • 5:20 p.m. BG before: 10.1 (after having a granola bar an hour earlier, no bolus)
  • Temp. basal: -100 per cent (1 hour)
  • Time: 1 hour
  • Distance: I can’t count that high
  • 6:45 p.m. BG after: 8.1
  • Temp. basal: +50 per cent (1 hour)

Next weekend my favourite ironchickie and a couple of my other peeps (Evil Pace Bunny and He Who Shall Remain Unnamed Until He Starts Reading My Blog) will be competing in Ironman Canada in Penticton. They have been training for what seems like forever, way longer than what I did training for my marathons. And the fact they’ve made it this far is a testament to the stars they really are. Seriously, they’re superstars!

Ironchickie SUPERSTAR at the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii. (Thanks for the pic Miss Ironchickie!)

Have a great race my friends and if you hear a super excited cracked cheer from afar, know it’s me cheering your every stroke, pedal push and stride from the comfort of the tracking zone on my computer 😀
