The drawbacks of superiority

Blogger fun fact: I’m higher evolved! I’m not kidding, totally am. It was almost 10 years ago now when a girlfriend of mine first pegged my higher evolved state, and truthfully, I have no idea how we didn’t glom onto it sooner. When you line up all the factors, it makes sense really: My pancreas doesn’t produce insulin and in the future nobody will be producing insulin because our bodies won’t need insulin. I have no wisdom teeth, period, and wisdom teeth are a serious throwback of the neanderthals. I never had the chickenpox, and again, chickenpox, like smallpox, will be eradicated in the future. (My girlfriend is a serious Star Wars and Jean Luc Picard nerd, hence her love of the future :D) And so, because it was way better to believe and to tell people that I’m higher evolved than to have to explain to them all about […]

The Black Toes

Last night I was lying in bed wondering if my toenails would ever grow again. I know it’s not something the average girl thinks of, but for more than a month now, I’ve been staring at these black toes of mine and once they got past the swollen, oozing, tender, eww state they were in for the first three weeks after the marathon, they haven’t really progressed since. They haven’t changed in colour, they haven’t grown, they haven’t indicated whether they’re planning on falling off or not, nothing. That’s like four toes, 2 big toes, 2 number 2 toes, that continue to be a nasty blackish, purplish, reddish hue. Is this how it’s going to be from now on? Will I never see the healthy, but ugly, pale pink colour again? Maybe that’s not such a bad thing, but still, it would be nice to know what to expect here

A millimole of a crisis

Happy sleep an extra hour day!!! Did you sleep your extra hour away? Did you toss and turn for that extra hour? Or were you a keener and got out for an early morning run? I slept … and then proceeded to stress over my blood sugars. They’re killing me! Since coming home, I’ve been stressing – A LOT – over my blood sugars. As I’ve mentioned before, I’m a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to having perfect blood sugars. I think it probably has something to do with the fact that for several years as a kid and a teenager, I had a lackadaisical attitude when it came to my diabetes. – Sorry moms – I pretended I didn’t have diabetes and would do things like give my moms plants my insulin, not eat my lunches, eat chips and chocolate bars for lunch, and drink alcohol like

Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice!

The verdict is in: I am a Tim Burton’s dream come true … well, the lower half of me that is. I went to my massage therapist yesterday and he confirmed to me what I had been suspecting for weeks. I am a twisted-up, crooked mess! My body’s alignment was so off kilter that not only was my left leg jammed all the way up to my ears (well practically so) my ankles too were twisted and jarred and jammed up as far as they could go. And when the one ankle unsuspectingly popped at the same time as my leg being reefed back into place, I am not ashamed to say that yes I let out a cringe-worthy yelp. While I’ve had the leg issues before, the ankles were a first, and it freaking well hurt fixing them up! Looks like I’ll be continuing my break from running, she

Singing the blues

This princess has got a touch of the rain city blues 🙁 It didn’t take long for them to hit, just a couple of days back on the coast, a couple of days going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark, a couple of days filled with gloomy grey, monsoon-like weather, I kid you not, it was pelting down so hard yesterday if I’d gone out for more than a minute I am sure I would have not only come in soaked to the bone, but also with bruises. See, British Columbia, and the coast in particular, is widely known for its beauty, the mountains and ocean and rivers and green everywhere, and especially at this time of year with its rich coloured fall leaves sparkling in the trees and lining the streets, but that beauty, it comes at a cost. As much as we’re known
