Headbands and ponytails

Welcome to the first day of a summer, the longest day of the year, a glorious day that should be filled with sunshine and butterflies, and ice cream and popsicles, but for us West Coasters it’s more like sweaters and grey gloom. Boo šŸ™ When I woke up this morning, and looked out the window to the familiar grey skies, I decided to rebel against them. I was tired of the grey clouds, tired of the rain, tired of Juneuary! So, rather than dress myself in long johns and sweatshirts, I put my jeans on, rolled them up into beach-like boyfriend-style jeans, put a t-shirt on and was good to go … I may have froze in the office all day (seriously, why is the air conditioner on when it’s freezing outside???) but it was so worth it. And on my way to work, I decided to take my ZoĆ« […]

A whole lotta Dad Day love

When Mario told me he had to write his blog this morning before going out on a ride – emphasis on had to – I didn’t really think too much of it. I was on my way to my parent’s following this morning’s 13 km LSD run, and he was on his bike, but only in Burnaby. I’d already been out of the house for two and a half hours and had figured he would have been a lot further along by now – but he had to write his blog, he said. And it wasn’t until we were off the phone, and I had continued on to my parent’s to bring my dad some Happy Father’s Day love, that it suddenly dawned on me: Father’s Day! Mario lost his pops six years ago, just before Father’s Day, to pancreatic cancer. He had to write his blog. And my goodness what a touching

A Garmin world after all

So, I think Garmin’s taking over the world, and I think I may actually be the cause of it. Hear me out on this. See, it was only nine months ago that I bought my very first Garmin watch, not really that long ago when you think about it, and yet, here I am, nine months later, once again, Garmin shopping! It’s obvious, don’t you think, I’m so stroking the company’s ego (I already had a Garmin GPS … not much good that’s done me though) which is totally the result of their latest addition to the Garmin line: The Garmin Phone! It’s a pretty logical theory if you ask me šŸ˜€ When I bought the Garmin Forerunner 205 last September, I was fine with the fact that it didn’t come equipped with a heart rate monitor, in fact, I was quite over joyed by it. Firstly, I was saving

Get off the high horse and onto a bike

Warning, read at your own risk, there is a rant a brewing – oh is there ever! On my way home from work tonight I was listening to the local sports station, and one of the hosts, who’s kind of a douche to begin with, was going off about how Vancouver’s mayor (who by the way is über hot, and the man behind Happy Planet, which is awesome!) is making moves to build more bike lanes in the city. I’m thinking that most sane people wouldn’t really get their knickers in a knot over something that would actually make the roads safer and maybe even the world a little healthier by way of encouraging people to cycle rather than hop inside their gas-spewing, climate-change inducing, ugly vehicles! But nooooo, good ‘ol, Mercedes-driving, leather-pant wearing David Praat is aghast that his taxpayer dollars are going towards something that would benefit, and

Training – even in my sleep!

I don’t know how they do it, I really, really don’t. I’m only in my first full official week of marathon training and I’m already freaking out about how the heck I’m going to fit it all in. I thought I knew what I was getting into, but really, until you factor it all in, and really register it, you have no idea. The Running Room’s marathon training consists of five days a week of running, with distances that range anywhere from 6 km to 32 km. Add to that the one day of the week of strength training for my core, and the remaining day of the week for yoga to stretch out what I imagine will soon be extremely tight muscles, and there’s no more days of the week left! I half jokingly told Mario the other day that he’s pretty much not gonna see me for the
