The Rogue Marathoner

Ok, so the Running Room marathon clinic started tonight, but for all the talking I’ve been doing, I hadn’t yet signed up for it. I had every intention in the world to sign up, I even got off the highway yesterday to stop in at the store, but then changed my mind and got right back on the highway. Now, in my defense, firstly I thought I still had a couple of weeks to get everything done, and secondly, I’ve been flipping and flopping on whether or not I should sign up for the Abbotsford clinic (I’m a regular at that store) or the Burnaby one, which is closer to home.

So, I showed up at the store tonight with every intention in the world to skulk in the back and hopefully go unnoticed. I was gonna be all Elmer Fudd like “Shhhhhhh“. I was even calling myself the Rogue Marathoner – it’s got a nice ring, hey! However, the second I saw my running gals (who I haven’t seen since February) walk through the doors, my hands were all up and waving like a crazy woman. Oh crap, there goes my whole going incognito plan.

The running gals reunited, but where oh where is our speed demon Helen???

I still don’t know which store I’ll end up in by the end of the clinic (whichever one makes my life easiest :)) but the Running Room staff assured me that I can transfer over if need be. So, I got out my debit card, and scratched the Rogue Marathoner tag off my resume!

With all the other clinics I’ve gone into, I’ve always been driven by completing the races by a certain time, but this clinic, being my first marathon clinic, I’m really just trying to go in it with an attitude that gets me across the finish line upright and smiling. I really hope my competitive side doesn’t get the better of me, and that I can follow the plan to a tee … didn’t quite work out for us tonight though. But seriously, you get a bunch of girls together who haven’t seen each other in awhile, we’re gonna chat … and not pay attention to the fact that we’re going like 35 or more seconds faster than we should be. Oops 😀

TONIGHT’S RUN:

I’ve been noticing lately that my blood sugars are good after a run, but an hour later they shoot up a few units (when I got home tonight, they were 11.0) and I’m not sure why. Any theories out there?
